To Our Dear Brothers and Sisters,

A Testament to Her Divine Grace

During its nearly eight years of existence, DEVI School has provided a growing body of students with a diverse and high-quality education, enabling them to earn a globally accepted high school diploma. Our students benefit from healthy food, safe dormitory facilities, enriching outdoor experiences, and the support of a Sahaja Yoga collective throughout most of the year. We’ve been blessed with dedicated staff who have given years of their lives to this project for little or, in some cases, no compensation.

Reflecting on how DEVI School came into existence and continues to provide a valuable experience for Sahaja youth worldwide, we cannot help but recognize the Divine’s favor and protection. As many of you know, DEVI School was gifted a functional school building and received enough startup funding to purchase and renovate dormitory facilities. Inspired Sahaja Yogis dedicated themselves to the project, and parents sought to enroll their children. For those living at the school or parents of enrolled students, it is clear that a steady Divine hand guides this journey.

Financial Challenges

Starting, sustaining, and growing a school while achieving the outcomes that parents and students value is no small task. It typically requires the financial support of entire communities to fulfill key objectives: affordability for families, high-quality education, and adequate compensation for staff.

Sustaining this project financially has been a true test of faith and commitment. Inflation has affected us in Canada just as it has elsewhere, impacting families’ ability to afford tuition, patrons’ ability to contribute, and our ability to offer more dignified compensation to our devoted staff. While we have successfully financed the purchase and renovation of all our buildings, vehicles, wells, and septic systems, the overhead from bank loans will remain with us for some time. Since donations are unpredictable and may slow down, we sometimes have to take out advances to cover expenses or make difficult choices about what we can provide.

Why External Support is Essential

It’s important to understand that the financial challenges facing DEVI School are not unique for a private boarding school. Research shows that most Canadian private boarding schools rely not only on tuition fees but also on charitable donations, endowment income, and sometimes government subsidies to remain sustainable. Combined annual tuition and boarding fees for private boarding schools in Canada typically range from roughly CAD 18,000 to nearly CAD 100,000 per year, with the average hovering around CAD 50,000 to CAD 60,000.

These higher costs are largely tied to the realities of operating a school in Canada, where expenses for staffing, food, maintenance, and facilities reflect the country’s overall cost structure. In comparison, DEVI School’s fees are significantly lower—presently just CAD 13,000 for middle school and CAD 14,000 for high school. This places DEVI well below the low end of the national range, underscoring the importance of external support to keep tuition affordable while maintaining quality education and adequate staff compensation.

Studies by the Fraser Institute and Cardus confirm that independent schools in Canada generally rely on a diversified revenue model, combining tuition fees with charitable donations, fundraising, and government grants.

How You Can Help

If you have supported this project financially, please know how deeply grateful we are for your generosity—you have made a significant difference. DEVI School owes much of its existence and growth to the generous contributions of its supporters. However, continued support remains essential to sustain this project.

Please spread the word and let other Yogis know how vital this Sahaja Education project is. Inform your country and foundation leaders of the importance of supporting DEVI School—not only for the children who attend but also for the strength and growth of the entire Sangha. Nurturing and protecting young Sahaja adults during this pivotal stage of their lives is essential for the future of our collective and the world.

From our hearts, we humbly thank you for your continued support of Shri Mataji’s school in Canada. We bow at Her Lotus Feet, now and always.

With love and gratitude,

The DEVI School Team
