September through June.

Key dates that you won’t want to miss when planning your travel will be on the Academic Calendar.

Every student who is not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident must obtain a Study Permit to attend the DEVI School. This permit must be secured before arriving in Canada.

The DEVI School will assist you throughout the application process. Additional information is available in our Study Permit Guide

All parents are responsible for arranging adequate health insurance for their child while attending DEVI School.

  • Most international students do not qualify for Canadian government healthcare.
  • Proof of valid insurance must be sent to the school before arrival.
  • Make sure your plan is part of the Blue Cross Network.

DEVI School’s local medical services belong to the Blue Cross network

💡 Recommended Insurance

We recommend Medavie Blue Cross – Travel to Canada, which is affordable and accepted by local hospitals and clinics. When applying, select “outside Canada” as your child’s place of residence (unless already living in Canada).

🚨 Why In-Network Coverage Matters

If your child’s insurance is out-of-network:

  • The adult accompanying the student must pay medical costs up front
  • The family must submit a claim after treatment
  • Reimbursement may be partial or denied
  • To avoid these issues, ensure your plan is accepted by local providers and includes emergency services.

To help you prepare for your child’s stay, we’ve created a comprehensive packing list that outlines both what to bring and what to leave at home. Please refer to the document below to ensure your child has the appropriate items.

Getting Students Here and Back

DEVI School will organize student transportation to and from Halifax International Airport on the official arrival and departure dates using a reliable third-party shuttle service.

  • The cost is covered by parents and is estimated at CAD $40–$50 per trip.
  • No transportation is provided outside these dates.
  • If needed, families must arrange a private shuttle (approx. $250 from Halifax Airport Taxis). If necessary, contact us for assistance: contact@devischool.org
  • Nova Scotia is part of Atlantic Canada and is geographically closer to Europe than any other region in North America. A direct flight from London to Halifax takes just under six hours. Halifax Stanfield International Airport is a modern, full-service airport with connections to major cities around the world. It is located approximately 1.5 hours by car from Mill Village, where DEVI School is located.
  • Schedule flights to arrive during daylight hours for an easier, safer welcome experience.
  • Once flights are booked, email full details (arrival date, time, airline, and flight number) to: contact@devischool.org
  • If your child is flying as an unaccompanied minor, inform us early. Some airlines require the name of the adult receiving the child, which we may not be able to provide until a few weeks prior to travel.
  • If your child is entering Canada through another city (such as Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, or St. John’s) and connecting to a second flight to Halifax, please make sure there is enough time between flights. Allow extra time for immigration, customs, baggage re-check, and security screening, which can take longer at busy international airports.

Use the school’s WhatsApp parent group to:

  • Coordinate travel times
  • Share transportation
  • Share hotel bookings

Please ensure your child travels with original physical copies of the following:

  • DEVI School Acceptance Letter
  • Custodianship Form
  • Proof of Health Insurance
  • Photocopy of Return Flight
  • Study Permit / eTA or TRV
  • Letter of Consent (if not traveling with both parents)
  • Passport

  • Upload all documents to the School Portal before departure. Instructions are available in your account.
  • Retain digital copies on your device for easy reference.

Travel Info for Parents/Guardians

Depending on your country of citizenship, you may or may not need a visa to visit Canada.

  • Visa-exempt countries: No visa required.
  • Non-exempt countries: A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is required.

You can:

If a TRV is required:

  • Request an invitation letter from the school by emailing enrolment@devischool.org
  • Include the full name and passport details of the traveler
  • Ensure your passport is valid and apply early due to potential processing delays

There is no public transportation to DEVI School. We are unable to provide airport pickups for parents.

You have two transportation options:

  1. Book a shuttle (e.g., Halifax Airport Taxis – approx. $250 one way)
  2. Rent a vehicle for flexibility and ease of travel

Renting a vehicle is recommended, especially if you plan to explore or arrive early.

Please ensure you and your child travel within the official arrival and departure dates.

  • We cannot provide staff support or transportation outside these windows. Staff are occupied with academic preparation, student orientation, and dorm setup.
  • Avoid travel during school days, as even a few student absences significantly impact our small class sizes.

If your child arrives or departs outside the approved dates:

If your child needs to purchase items unavailable in your home country, we recommend:

  • Arriving in Halifax 1–2 days early
  • Doing your shopping in Halifax before traveling to the school

Halifax is close to the airport and has the most comprehensive shopping options in the region.

You may also:

  • Ship items to the school via online orders
  • Bring essentials from home based on the school’s packing list
  • Meals are available to visiting families on official arrival and departure days for a small fee.
  • Outside these dates, local dining options can be found in Liverpool, 15 minutes from the school.
  • A rental car is highly recommended if arriving early or staying nearby.

Parents and guardians accompanying students for drop-off or pick-up are responsible for arranging their own accommodation while in Nova Scotia.

September is one of the most beautiful times to visit the province! If your schedule allows, we highly recommend exploring the region:

  • Go for a hike or paddle a canoe
  • Taste local seafood
  • Swim in the Atlantic Ocean
  • Enjoy the natural beauty of Atlantic Canada
